Wedding Wednesday - 50 Pounds of Chocolate I can't believe this is my last Wedding Wednesday post. I think I'm already having withdrawal. But if I must end this wonderful wedding series, I'll do it with a bang! How does 50 pounds of chocolate sound?

Gone are the days when we'd fill our massive wall units with chachkies from baptisms, communions, sweet 16's and weddings. We just don' have the space! Today's wedding guests don't need another crystal bowl, another picture fame with a photo of the couple or a bunch of multi-colored candied almonds they can chip a tooth on. Give the people a wedding favor they can actually do something with. Something to plant or something yummy to safely eat. For my event I naturally I opted for CHOCOLATE!

I happened to be great friends with the most amazing chocolatier in Bay Ridge, Kelly Graham and she went all out for my guests. She gifted me the most incredible solid chocolate champagne bottles.  I mean I literally died when I saw the 50 pound box of chocolate she was working with.

The chocolate bottle tops were wrapped in gold foil. Affixed to them were custom edible labels that I helped design. Over 65 solid chocolate champagne bottles were hand tied with a corresponding gold ribbon and preserved in cellophane for my guests to enjoy. Kelly went above and beyond for me and my "I Do, Take Two" and I will forever be grateful.

I have one champagne bottle left that will never be consumed by anyone, neatly tucked away in my freezer because I'm a weirdo like that.

Wedding Wednesday - Dance, Dance! I'm not the wedding band type of person. Between you and me I think my friends & family would have killed me if I had a big band play at my reception. Although I would have definitely hired Adam Sandler. I wanted non stop dancing and great music to keep my party going all night (well we had the venue till 11pm so almost all night). FYI: I'm a par-tay animal! It ain't a good time unless the bride falls and busts her ass while dancing. Yes, that happened to me. No, I wasn't drunk and unfortunately it wasn't captured on film or else it would be right up in this blog post!

My husband and I grew up in the 90's and you best believe I had some great 90's music cue the freestyle, hip hop and today's hits. You might be wondering "Lisette, what did your DJ play?" Have no fear I've got a taste of my wedding playlist down below.

I want to thank NYC PartyMasters for an incredible night. They worked with my budget (key word right there) and did an amazing job! I had an awesome set up, incredibly professional DJ and even a custom animated logo. Yea, that's right, we fancy! If you can imagine it they will do it for you. Cotton Candy machine, photo booth and even carnival rides. Definitely check them out.

This is what we entered the reception to - Shut Up & Dance by Walk the Moon

This song really means so much to us as a couple - You're Still the One by Shania Twain

This was a must have for my husband - Big Pimpin' by Jay Z

This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan

100% Pure Love by Crystal Waters

Take Me in Your Arms by Lil Suzy

I Do Cherish You by 98*

Made my husband run back to the dance floor for this one! You know I sang it to him. #SorryNotSorry

And the last song of the evening

Booty by JLo feat. Iggy Azalea

Remember this is just a taste of what was played. The night really was a blur of happy moments and I was hurting from all the dancing I did. Talk about a night to remember.

Wedding Wednesday - Let Them Eat Cake! A huge thank you to Jacqueline Antonucci of J. Rose Fondant. She'll be the sister-in-law to one of my BFFs come 2017. You'll want to have her info on hand for your next event. Seriously, click that link and save it! She works wonders making masterful fondant flowers and damn tasty cakes too! The only thing I regret not doing is asking her to make matching cupcakes but I think that would have been a little over kill. Jacqueline was a pleasure to work with as I changed my mind about the cake design a couple of times. She worked with my budget (you know how I feel about my little friend Mr. Budget) and gave me a cake I'd never forget!

After so much planning I forget the cake stand I purchased at home and the cake topper went missing but what's a wedding day without a few hiccups?

Yes, I had delicious icing up my nose. I cannot confirm or deny that I ate it.

Wedding Wednesday - Picture Perfect In my last Wedding Wednesday blog post you heard a little about the weather dilemma I faced that day. The wedding gods were on my side so I ran to Brooklyn, Bridge Park to meet my Event Photographer, Dan of Marino Photography before the wedding gods changed their minds.

Dan & I have known each other for a few years as we had many clients in common and worked together on a few projects. Yes, it's possible that competing photographers can get along without killing each other. We're so awesome, it's hard not to love us! Plus there is so much we can learn from each other that it benefits everyone.

Ok, enough with this "photographer love-fest", you came here for two things. 1. To see my favorites images from my wedding and 2. to figure out how to pick a photographer for your next event or family session.  Let's begin with my photos because you's my blog.

Remember that pesky little thing called "Budget"? I knew I couldn't afford my photographer. There is no shame in admitting that. Great photography is an investment. I did what any budget conscience bride with a trade would do. I asked if I could sell my soul to get him to photograph my event. Just kidding. This good Catholic girl would do no such thing! We worked out an agreement that would let me work with him on his events in exchange for him photographing mine. Trust me even though It was a win/win for everyone, I worked long hours at several events to work off my debt. Want to know what to do if you don't have a trade to offer? Keep scrolling to find out.

Daaaamn Daniel. Back at it again with the photography skills!  All joking aside he didn't disappoint. Dan knocked it out of the park with his photo journalistic approach to my event. I was so incredibly happy with my images I literally cried and that only happens when I watch that ASPCA commercial with the "Arms of an Angel" song (you know the one I'm talking about) that pulls on my heart strings which then leads me to whip out my credit card. Sorry about that, I digress. He gave me the wedding photos I wasn't able to have the first time around, surrounded by my family and friends (old and new). They really mean the world to me. Thank you Dan, from the bottom of my heart!

Click here for a slideshow of MORE amazing photos!

So here are what I think are 3 EASY TIPS TO FINDING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER:

1. Chose a photographer by word of mouth

As a photographer, this is the best way to pick your perfect match. If your friends cousin's sister's daughter LOVED her photographer and you loved their photographer's style then ask her for their info. It doesn't matter if its for family photos, birthday parties or your wedding. If they aren't getting stellar reviews, no matter how "affordable" they are, DON'T HIRE them. If you love them but they're a little too pricey for you, ask them if they have a payment plan. Smaller payments over the course of a year won't put you in the poor house and you will get the photos in the style that you love!

2. Quality over quantity

This age old saying is totally true, especially when it comes to photography. The same way a museum curates a collection, you want a selection of great images not a million okay ones. You want someone who will capture great portraits and the spirit of the evening. When you look back at these photos you want to think "Wow, I had a great time!" not "Oh, that night was, meh..."

3. What's in it for you?

We all want to get a bang for our buck. From my experience both professionally and personally, on average only 5-10 images are actually printed from your event or session. So find a photographer that has print options and let them print your favorites. Nothing is worse than picking up your inexpensive prints from a whole sale food store and seeing granny looking a little more orange than you remember her being or your navy blue bridesmaid dresses looking sea foam green.  See Tip #2 above, quality over quantity always! Other products such as albums and CD's are great items to add on and they'll always be there when you want to relive that moment. I'm currently creating my album as we speak. It's harder than I thought it'd be. So many choices!

I hope these tips help you in your journey to find the right person for the job. I know they've helped me and I'm just happy to pass them along.  I still have lots more to talk about so see you next Wedding Wednesday!

Wedding Wednesday - Makeover

I'm an "au naturel" kinda gal so I knew I needed my go to makeup artist, Kristen Sanchez for my wedding makeover. Not only is she family but she is ah-may-zing and putting together this tired mom of two with a glam look for the wedding gods wasn't going to be a piece of cake.

It was raining the entire morning of my "I Do Take Two". If the weather didn't get better before my photos at 4 o'clock, I was in trouble. My makeup would melt off my face and my hair would be one giant puff ball. I'm not kidding. The weather needed to change and change fast! I prayed and I prayed for the sun to shine. Thank God the rain went away and the sun was here to stay!

Kristen did not mess around, showing up bright and early, hair & makeup tools in tow. I wanted soft curls and a smokey eye. I was highlighted, contoured and bronzed. False lashes that made my eyes pop and a winged liner that made me feel like I could fly. I felt so beautiful. Every bride should feel like this on her wedding day. Thank you Kristen, for giving me my moment to shine.

This photo is straight from my phone. No filters. She made my pores disappear, dark under eye circles are gone and my patchy redness? Finito! She's a straight up Makeup Magician.

Make sure you follow her on Instagram @beauty_by_kristen for the latest-n-greatest in beauty trends, easy makeup looks and first impressions on high end as well as drug store makeup products.

Wedding Wednesday - Accessories This weeks edition of Wedding Wednesday is where the sparkle-n-shine comes in and completes my gorgeous outfit. I'll admit that I saved a little and may have splurged a teeny bit as well but the finishing touches are what makes any outfit...right? Links to these products or something similar are within this post. Lets start from the bottom on up. Cue the Drake song. Don't worry, I'll wait.

I knew my shoes weren't going to stay on all night so Payless pulled through with a pretty nude pump perfect for pictures for $29.99. I'm not a heels kinda girl so I walked in them just long enough for them to become annoying but if you can rock a heel these were great. I had a back up pair of silver laced Tom's my wonderful husband gifted me so I could dance the night away without any pain!

Up next is the pretty pearl and rhinestone wrap bracelet from the David's Bridal Accessory shop. I got this little number in the "Buy One, Get One Half Off" sale with the pearl necklace pictured above for $34.75; shipping & tax included. I also purchased a headband from them but it got damaged while shipping, so I sent it right back. Good thing I did.

I fell in love with this Crystal Strand Statement Headband when I went to a friends Chloe+Isabel party a mere two weeks before my event. At $58 plus tax & shipping, this was by far my priciest piece. But is wasn't that much of a splurge. At least that's what I tell my husband. There were also several earrings, necklaces and bracelets to go with this headband if you wanted a cohesive look. I wanted a mix of pearls and rhinestones for my accessories and I think I pulled it off.

Yes, I'm going there! I was gifted a girdle or faja as I like to call it but lost too much weight to fit into it. So the thrifty online shopper that I am hopped onto to the inter-webs and scooped up the Stunning Support Strapless Bra for $62 plus tax and free shipping. As for undies, my surprise bachelorette party and Mama Mafia took care of that.

Did you think I was going to leave the guys out of this equations? No way! For my wonderful husband we went a little more practical with his attire. His three piece suit was from the Joseph Abboud Collection at the Men's Wearhouse. Tailored to fit perfectly and the pieces double as work wear after the event. Doesn't he looks incredibly handsome?!

His blue polka dot bow tie and matching pocket square were from an Amazon Shop. I also purchased this for my son, father and father-in-law to create a cohesive look for pictures. I also asked them to wear similar colored suits and I had my mother & mother-in-law in grey dresses as well.

Just kidding!

Now that I've divulged the details of everything my hubby and I were wearing that day, don't you want to know who completed my look? Hair and makeup are next!

Wedding Wednesday-Saying Yes to the Dress To the average Bride this is the most important part of the wedding. Dare I say it's more important than the groom and being a plus size bride going dress shopping was daunting to say the least.

I binged episodes old & new of "Say Yes to the Dress" both the New York and Atlanta editions. Caught up on the new plus size bridal show, Curvy Brides and I was ready to travel anywhere and everywhere for my dress. There was just one small condition I had to deal with. My budget.

The budget was actually the most important part of the event. The elephant in the room that can make or break you. If you let this monster take over you can seriously end up in the poor house and with 2 kids, car payments and rent to pay, my Cinderella dream dress would have to remain on a very tight budget.

So being a Kleinfeld Bride was out. Their plus size dresses start at $2k. Way above my budget and that didn't even include alterations! This also meant that flying back and forth to Atlanta & Maryland to be with Monty and the Harris Sisters was out of the question. My first stop ended up being the budget friendly David's Bridal.

I under estimated this bridal shop tremendously. I tried on ballgowns, mermaids, off the shoulder, halter tops, cap sleeves and no sleeves. David's Bridal had such a vast selection of plus size gowns to choose from I was getting weary and losing hope I'd find "The One" within my one hour appointment time. After about the 5th or 6th dress, I found it. A beautifully beaded champagne bodice with a sweetheart neckline and umpire waist which had gorgeous tulle floating down to the floor. Yes, I was in love. I fell even more in love when I saw the price. My dress was under $500! My mother sweetened the pot when she offered to pay half.

I bought my dream wedding dress without a second thought of going to any other store. All I had to do was not gain weight from now until my alterations appointment 6-8 months away. Ugh, this was going to be hard.

Alterations was a beast that I was not prepared for. While I had my trusty partner in crime (please see the ninja moves she has in the image above) I was not ready for the 1,2 punch the pricing of it all was going to give me. Because I dropped an entire dress size from the time I purchased the dress to my alterations appointment, David's Bridal had to rework the bodice not once but twice. Cue the heart attack. I know, who thought losing weight was a bad thing? When it comes to wedding dress alterations, losing or gaining weight can be costly. When all was said and done my alterations set me back a whopping $210! Now, to be fair I was warned by a friend of mine that alterations could get ugly. I chose not to believe her and that was a big mistake.

At the end of the day I can say it was money well spent because I got my dream dress which fit me like a glove for a little over $700! You're probably wondering about shoes and accessories. That's coming up in next weeks Wedding Wednesday so see you then!

But I will be posting about all the wonderful details of my Vow Renewal/Anniversary Party in the weeks that follow so keep your eyes peeled! I Spell Mom S-U-P-E-R-M-O-M | GUEST BLOGGER Michelle Kennedy Michelle KennedyGuest Blogger & Owner of Shanti Baby Yoga I've been working with local moms in my community the past few months asking them to show me what they love and how it can benefit other parents. I was sooooo privileged to sit in on an ah-mazing yoga class that not only benefited the moms in the class but the babies as well! I was witnessing life long friendships being made here, through moms and their babies. I wish I knew about this wonderful class when my children were little. Take a look at what Michelle Kennedy of Shanti Baby Yoga has to say about Super Moms and our village.

Parenting is an odd vocation. You don’t need any experience or training to become one, yet it is the most difficult, 24-7 volunteer job you’ll ever do. When we talk about the heroes in the world, we rarely consider the superhero known as: Mom.

Some moms will choose to breastfeed their baby. Others will choose formula. Both moms will be judged and yelled at for that and many other parenting choices. It’s confusing to a new mom to know what’s right. Mothers need other mothers. Mothers need praise. Mothers need to know what a great job they are doing, because they usually are. Finding a safe sharing place and group of other moms is vital to a mother’s sanity and success.

Mama & Shanti Baby Yoga is one place that provides the sanctuary many moms are looking for. We begin every class with each mom introducing herself and her baby. Not every parent and child class even acknowledges the parent has a name. Babies’ needs come first, so feeding, however they choose, changing or walking around is all permitting within the class setting. Babies cry. Babies get hungry. Babies poop. It’s all okay. Right away, this sets the tone that we are all in this together. This is a community of mothers, babies and care. Often, something comes up that a mom needs to get off her chest or ask about. “Should my four month old be waking to eat at night?” “When do I have to drop the crib mattress?” It’s such a support system!

This is not a Heidi Klum model-body rehabilitation class. This is about finding your balance, your breath and feeling stronger as a person and a mother. Most of the exercises can be done with the baby in her arms. Babies that need a little more touch can get it. Babies get exercise too and they work up an appetite. Words can’t describe the soulful smiles from mother and baby as they sing, coo and snuggle with their babies in class. It’s loving and all that I believe yoga to be.

Yoga means union. I have always felt that the union of parent and baby deserves celebration through the physical activity of yoga. The bonus is the many long-term mom friendships have blossomed out of Mama & Shanti Baby Yoga classes.

Each class ends on a positive note of snuggling with baby, gratitude and affirmations to remind each mom that she is, indeed, a Super Mom. Some moms have come up to me at the end of class with tears, saying they didn’t expect to cry, but the affirmations touched them. I am a firm believer in recognizing value and complimenting a job well done. The moms in class earn my respect and praise. I truly believe in the phrase, “It takes a village.” And the community or union that develops in this environment can become the village that every mom needs to succeed. If you read this all the way through, you too are a wonderful parent.

Think you have something great to contribute to our parent community? Let's chat!

Perfect Pooches I first met Oscar & Daisy for their holiday portraits last year. I instantly fell in love with these pugs. I was smothered in kisses and this year was no different. They are the perfect cuddle buddies and so adorable. Their "person" is Leah and she is the sweetest owner who happily obliged when I asked for a selfie with her perfect pooches. Hope to see you guys soon!

New Year. New Beginnings. Over the past year I've taken my photography business to the next level. I've taken several educational courses as well as participated in workshops to master my technical abilities, awaken my creative side and present to you the best custom portrait experience I have to offer.

It's very important for me to bring you almost 10 years of experience at an affordable price point. Balancing a local business and a family is no easy task but raising my photography session prices at this point in my career is the right move.

I value my clients more than you could ever know so I'm also going to offer affordable print collections starting at $45 and including MORE digital images for you to download. I will continue to offer 2 seasonal promotions a year as well as cards, CDs and other print products.

New session pricing begins January 2016. A one hour Session will begin at $280 and Mini Sessions will begin $150. If you schedule your sessions before 11:59 pm on 12/31/2015 you will receive the 2015 pricing!

Thank you for supporting a local business and I look forward to capturing many family memories with you!

Communion Princess Jackie was the prettiest little lady at communion. She had a one of a kind dress with the bodice made from pieces of her mother's wedding gown, it sparkled like no other. A butterfly themed bouquet finished off this picture perfect look. She even had her very own body guard, her older brother. Congratulations Jackie! God bless you as you continue on your spiritual journey.

Fall Mini Session Round Up My favorite season by far is Autumn. The chill in the air, leaves crunching underneath your feet and don't forget that hot cup of apple cider to warm you right through. Lucie+Margaret When my childhood friend Lucie, told me she was getting married I was so happy for her. When she asked me to photograph her wedding I nearly fainted! After I picked my mouth up off the floor, I quickly said YES! Then the preparation for shooting my first wedding began. Pinterest boards were created, magazine subscriptions poured in and this family photographer was at every bridal webinar I could get my self into. It was almost as if I was getting married myself. As the months turned into weeks the big day finally arrived. I was wiping tears from behind the camera as I shot this beautiful Brooklyn wedding with two beautiful blushing brides. Congratulations Lucie and Margaret!
